Our Organic Coffee Farmers
Our Family Farm Partners
In the Alajuela province of Costa Rica, in an area called Atenas, there’s a family farm where coffee is grown in balance with plants and wildlife. More than 40 varieties of trees shade this well-tended crop. At least 50 different species of butterflies have been cataloged thus far. The bird, amphibian, and beneficiary insect populations are robust, while wild berries, sugar cane, and orchids sprout with ease. Pesticides are never used. Coffee shells are fed to the organic compost mix to restore the already rich soil. Water and soil conservation and management practices are in effect. Beans are dried in the sun, and extra care is applied to the coffee roasting techniques right on the farm by the family who shares a deep passion for their proud tradition of coffee farming.
This coffee is certified organic by USDA (US), European Union, and Eco-LOGICA (Costa Rica). No small feat for a small-scale farm.
A Mutual Investment
Primal Echo is delighted to be partnered with the folks from this good-hearted family farm, from whom we source our coffee directly. We’ve established a relationship based on respect, honor, social equity, and a genuine mutual commitment to our respective principles of sustaining the land in ecologically and certified organic ways while sustaining each other through a long-term commitment to our relationship, economically sustainable trade, and outstanding java quality for our customers who believe in what we do.
Our Coffee Line
Our new line of coffee is called Sole (pronounced “So-leh”), in honor of the farming family’s mama. It’s also representative of the ‘sole’ path we walk in our impassioned pledge to educate, inspire , and encourage customers, employees, suppliers, and members of the local and global villages in which we interact to join us in making more thoughtful choices in what we feed our bodies, how we farm our lands, and how we treat one another.
We’re proud to bring you our first two types of coffee in whole bean medium roast (Sole’s face is on this label!) and in whole bean dark roast (and that’s Gerardo, the papa of the family farm, on this blend). Because we’re deeply committed to the partnerships we have established with all our supply partners and educating folks on social equity, Primal Echo is donating 2% of our net sales to local and global social causes. Take a peek at what we’re supporting in the Conscious Consumer Trust (CCT), a start-up community- based social equity think tank in our hometown of Fort Collins, CO, USA, and Lily Moon Sustainability Project in Costa Rica that will help our farmers, artisans, and a school in the rural community of Atenas.
